St. Patrick's Day has become akin to good times and indulging in booze and traditional Irish food such equally Reuben sandwiches.

Like Harmon'south Pub in Canton or Mulligan's in Jackson Township, The College Inn in Alliance is preparing for a busy holiday.

"St. Patrick's Twenty-four hour period is crazy here," said Sam Brunner, who co-owns the Alliance restaurant with her mom Cindy Cade. They opened in 1997.

The Higher Inn, 935 W. Land St., does not serve alcohol but Brunner chosen her restaurant the spot for St. Patty drinkers to "get their base of operations going" before they hit the confined.

Reubens vs. Rachels

A true corned beef sandwich comes served on Jewish rye bread with mustard and a pickle.

And that's information technology, said Mike Schario of Jackson Township.

Reubens are served warm with sauerkraut, Swiss cheese and Russian or M Island dressing on rye bread. They are mutual and pop variants on the corned beefiness sandwich, according to nutrient blogger Julie Evnik.

Most restaurants serve Reubens.

Now Rachels are Reuben-like but employ roasted turkey or turkey pastrami and coleslaw in place of sauerkraut and corned beef (or pastrami, another meat selection for Reubens), Evnik said in her "Julie's Eats & Treats" blog.

'A good sandwich should ...'

Members of the "Taste of Stark" Facebook group, responding to a question from this reporter, shared their opinions on what makes a good corned beefiness sandwich. Here were some of the responses:

"I similar shaved corned beef instead of sliced. It seems to be more than tender that style and I like it juicy but not to brand the breadstuff soggy and not overloaded with meat," Liz Calhoun of Perry Township posted.

Michele Kennedy of North Caposted: "A good sandwich should not be moisture or mushy and the corned beef should non be full of gristle or fat."

"The i,000 island should come on the side, so you can dip it," Sandie Baltzly of Massillon posted. "If they put it on the sandwich, information technology gets lost somehow."
